16-17th RAF Harrowbeer 1940s Weekend

Buckland monachorum, Devon

RAF Harrowbeer is a former WWII Fighter Airfield at Yelverton, Devon. Our main website for all the history of the Airfield has always been: www.rafharrowbeer.co.uk but this website was written using early website software and will not be updated. We have created a new site, www.rafharrowbeer.com and this will be used from now on.

The 1940s Weekend started life in 2011 as a one-off event for the 70th Anniversary of the opening of the Airfield on the 15th August 1941. It proved so popular that after a gap of one year, the 1940s Weekend was created in 2013. It has been held every year since, apart from 2019 & 2020. In 2018, a violent Atlantic storm led to the cancellation of the Sunday of the event when the whole site was flooded.

26-28th Welshpool 1940s Weekend

Welshpool SY21 7NB

This proved highly successful and a smaller event was held in 2005 to mark the 60th Anniversary of VE VJ Day.

In 2015 as part of the 70th Anniversary of VE VJ Day Alan organised another 1940s day as part of a programme of events to mark the occasion. It was put to him that the 40s day was better than a number of first events of many similar ones that have been going for a number of years. Taking this on board, without any funding or major support he organised a significantly bigger and better 1940s weekend in 2016 which grows bigger, better & stronger year by year.

Having taken it as far as he could single handed, Alan recruited the different helpers and supporters of the event to form a committee to help with the general organising of the event and the fund raising activities that are staged to make the main weekend happen.
